Eversolo Play: a simpler way to build a streaming stereo

Have a pair of passive speakers you want to use more often? The Eversolo Play is worth considering when you want music streaming and speaker amplification in one component. The important first question is what you want to keep from your current system.

What the Play puts in one box

The Play combines network music streaming, digital-to-analog conversion, and a two-channel amplifier. Eversolo lists output at 60 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 110 watts into 4 ohms. It has a 5.5-inch touchscreen, app control, HDMI ARC for a compatible TV, and a subwoofer output. The Standard Edition has no built-in CD drive; the CD Edition adds one. Keep your amplifier, or replace it?

Keep it if you already enjoy it. If your existing amplifier and speakers work well together, consider a streamer that matches an available input. You do not have to replace good amplification just to add network music.

Consider the Play if you want a simpler system. It makes more sense when you need both streaming and amplification, or want to consolidate components around compatible passive speakers. Its speaker outputs are amplified outputs; do not connect them to another amplifier’s line inputs.

Check these things before buying

• Speaker fit: check impedance, sensitivity, listening distance, and the speaker maker’s recommendations. A wattage figure alone does not guarantee the volume or performance you want in your room.
• Music services: confirm your preferred service and control method are supported in your region. Streaming subscriptions may cost extra, and support can change with firmware.
• TV use: check the TV’s ARC port and the Play’s supported audio settings. This is a stereo amplifier, not a replacement for a multichannel surround receiver.
• Sources you want to keep: list your turntable, disc player, and other devices, then match every required connection before ordering.
• The exact edition: choose the CD Edition only if you want its integrated disc drive. Compare the listing, seller, warranty, and return terms.

A straightforward first setup

1. Plan the layout. Give the unit its required ventilation and position the speakers with a clear path to your listening seat.
2. Connect with power disconnected. Follow the manuals, keep speaker polarity consistent, and check for loose wire strands before powering up.
3. Get streaming working first. Connect to your network, follow the current setup instructions, and confirm playback from your preferred service at low volume.
4. Add other sources one at a time. Confirm each works before changing another part of the system. For TV audio, follow both devices’ ARC instructions.
5. Refine the room setup. Check speaker placement and bass balance with familiar music. Record a baseline before experimenting with processing or EQ.

The goal is a system you enjoy using every day. A convenient component cannot compensate for an obstructed speaker or a poor room layout, so give the physical setup the same attention as the feature list.

Which version should you compare?

Start with the Standard Edition if streaming is your focus. Compare the CD Edition if you still play discs and want fewer separate components. Check current pricing on the retailer’s listing; we do not reproduce prices that may become outdated.
